About our county

Briscoe County is located in the Texas pan handle and the county seat is Silverton. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1892, named after Andrew Briscoe, a soldier during the Texas Revolution. Briscoe County is in total 902 square miles and of these, 900 consists of land with the balance being water. The population is an estimated 1,500.
